About Us
The history of the Puklusvin winery
At first, we only made wine as a primary producer, then Puklusvin Kft. was founded in November 1998, which still operates as a family business today.
Our company was founded by János Puklus and his wife, and in 2003 their daughter Judit and her husband Sándor joined to their winery. Today, their twin grandsons Gábor and Péter, who graduated as viticultural engineers in 2023, are also actively involved in the life of Puklusvin Kft.
In the first 5 years, we exclusively produced dry red wine, mostly from Kékfrankos, which we currently grow on 20 hectares. Over the years, the needs of our customers have inspired us, to expand our product range.
The secret of our uniqueness
In the beginning, we bought the grapes from local farmers, and by 2015 we reached the land size of 46 hectares. We only have medium-height cordon plantations younger than 20 years old, which are located in Fertőszentmiklós. The average annual temperature here is 1°C higher than in Sopron, which lends softness and a special character to our wines, and also makes them unique in the Sopron wine region.
During making our wines, we respect the natural processes. We intervene only to the extent necessary and sufficient to preserve the character and expressive power of the grapes. We make white, red and rosé wines from 16 types of grapes, in dry, semi-sweet and sweet versions.
This is how our wines developed
In the first 5 years, we made dry wine, mainly from the red Bluefränkish, which we grow on a total of 20 hectares. However, over the years, the needs of our customers have inspired us and we have gradually expanded our offer. As a next step, at the customer's request, we made semi-sweet red wine from Zweigelt, and later dry and semi-sweet white wines joined our palette.
With the expansion of our own plantations and the diversity of our grape varieties, the time has come to introduce our bottled wines. These wines were exclusively varietal wines that faithfully reflected the character of the terroir and the grapes.
The birth of the Gemini brand
The 2021 vintage was a key moment for us. The twin grandsons, who brought their knowledge and passion as viticultural and oenological engineers, created the first representative of the Gemini brand, NégyN cuveé. This special wine was born from white wines made with controlled fermentation.
We named our premium product line Gemini in their honor.
